National Culture Forum

NCF__logo

The National Culture Forum was established in 2005 to bring together all the professional bodies representing those working across the cultural services in the public sector.

The National Culture Forum provides:

• A single point of contact for public sector culture, sport and leisure

• A mechanism for the development of common views on key current issues

• A single body of sector leaders for consultation on policy and strategy direction

• An efficient and effective means of coordinating activity across the sector

• A representative voice for a large proportion of professionals involved in the culture, sport and leisure sector.

The National Culture Forum has been commissioned to deliver programmes to support the implementation of “A Passion for Excellence” including the “Leading Learning” programme developing future leaders in the cultural and sports sector and the Improvement Project, delivering CPD around improvement to ‘middle managers’ and producing advocacy/good practice documents.

The forum has 3 priorities for action;

  1. Leadership and Advocacy for the sector
  2. Delivering and supporting “A Passion for Excellence”
  3. Communication to the whole of the sector

There are currently 2 key initiatives:

NCF Improvement Programme: This programme has 2 elements. The Forum has commissioned papers on the value of culture and sport to wider agenda, and the first looks at how the sector can support adult social services. See The role of culture and sport in supporting adult social care. The second element is a series of conferences and seminars for NCF members, the first being organised by nalgao for NCF in Camden on 17 February. More information here. The PowerPoint presentation from the nalgao/NCF Outside In conference by Ailsa Anderson of One North East and James Waters of FEI is available here.

The second conference was held in Ipswich on 5th July 2010 and focused on the contribution of culture and sport to adult cultural services. For more information click here
